Enlarged thyroid steroids

QUESTION-Currently, in India we are consuming iodized salts everyday still there is very high prevalence of thyroid cases. My question is that in clinical practice do doctors need to completely avoid any nutritional supplement containing iodine (100-150mcg), considering that we all are consuming iodine salts and additional iodine containing preparation though in nutritional amount will be harmful to patient. Kindly throw some light on this issue. Makwana Altaf A;   (Pharmacology)
RESPONSE-As you have correctly pointed out the Universal Salt Iodisation Program (USI) in India has had its “ups and downs” and there have been many reports in the literature of it not being as effective as one had hoped for.

Help I have a friend who is a gym goer Im not sure of his quantity or how long he has been taking steroids, but stopped recently because he had really bad neck pain. No dr or scan, ultrasound etc showed anything. Put on huge pain killer amounts didnt help alot but felt after about six weeks some relief. Until today when he thinks a prior knee issue has flared up. If this a result of steroid abuse how long before it heals? Im pretty sure he wont touch them again. He can handle all over aches and pains but these last two injuries have had him off work.

The esophagus is involved in the processes of swallowing and peristalsis to move substances from the mouth to the stomach. The swallowing food begins in the mouth and continues with the contraction of skeletal muscles in the pharynx and esophagus. The upper esophageal sphincter dilates to permit the swallowed substance to enter the esophagus. From this point, waves of muscle contraction called peristalsis move food toward the stomach. In peristalsis, regions of the esophagus closer to the stomach open to permit food to pass through while the region just above the food contracts to push the food onward. Peristalsis works so well that food can be swallowed even while the body is lying down, upside down, or even in zero-gravity.
